Many career specialization options
There are many different fields in architecture. You could be a landscape architect, an interior designer or an industrial designer. This means that depending on what you’re interested in, there are many fields you can specialize in within the field of architecture.
You can work anywhere
As an architect, you can work almost anywhere in the world. You can work on site for a company that’s renovating a building, in a research development lab as a consultant, or in your own firm. Your paycheck may not come from where you work but the creativity that comes with your job is enough to keep you motivated.
You get to be creative and analytical
In the most traditional sense, architecture is about designing the physical building. But it’s also about the design of everything around the building. Where will it be located? Who will use it? What activities will take place there?
Architects need to understand the verbal and visual needs of their client, as well as the technical requirements of the building. And once they’ve figured out what the building needs to do, they need to figure out a way to make that happen within the context of the surrounding environment.
An architect spends a lot of time thinking about problems, defining the goals, and trying to create solutions that meet all of those goals. The amazing thing about architecture is that although all of that analysis is critical to solving the problem, it’s not the only thing that matters. By the end of the process, we’re left with a marriage of creativity and logic.
